our parish priest - challenged the entire parish to a dry fast... Nothing past the lips from sunrise to sunset. "If our muslim brothers and sisters can do it, why can't we? "- is what he said.
The alternative he said would be a wet fast - where one would be allowed to have water, but no food.
My hubby fasts every year - last year I was pregnant with Joshua during Lent, and so I tried to make my sacrifices in other ways. I think this year I will try the fast. I know it is going to be difficult, since I am a muncher... - As our priest told us - "this first few days are very tough - but it will bring you closer to God, you will reap the rewards"...
Since closer to God is where I want to be... and this is all I have been comtemplating all day... I think the Lord is speaking to me here...
Have you tried a fast?? Let me know...
Today is the the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, patron of schools and Doctor of the Church... Go here to read more.
Dear St. Thomas Aquinas, we entrust all our schooling children into your care - intercede for them to Our Lord, that they may see the importance of being educated...
In Christ our Lord... Ruby

I have tried fasts in many forms. In my single days I did big time fasts like no meat for all of Lent. I've also done the one you speak of today. The liquid one works best for me as I have low blood sugar and now that I'm pregnant, I will be looking for creative ways to do my fasting.
It does help bring you closer to God because as a muncher myself, I find it to be a constant reminder throughout the day of the sacrifice being made. This leads to a more mindfulness of His sacrifice for us. It's really great (and hard too).
